Werthein defended Javier Milei for refusing to greet Jorge Macri: "Good people don't practice hypocrisy."

Werthein defended Javier Milei for refusing to greet Jorge Macri: "Good people don't practice hypocrisy."

President Javier Milei , along with his entire cabinet, participated today in the Te Deum of May 25th at the Buenos Aires Cathedral . There was a tense atmosphere there because upon entering, the head of state avoided greeting or exchanging words with Vice President Victoria Villarruel and the head of the Buenos Aires government, Jorge Macri , an incident that went viral a few minutes later and earned the president criticism.

The PRO leader stood with his arm in the air as the Libertarian leader entered, further expressing his desire not to greet him. In response to the criticism, Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein said, "After having promoted a dirty campaign and having given rise to figures whose sole objective was to harm Javier and, by extension, Argentina, we cannot now expect a gesture of courtesy as if nothing had happened ."

"Actions have consequences. Javier represents a way of doing politics based on authenticity, truth, and consistency. Good people don't practice hypocrisy : they stand firm in their principles. Saluting someone who acted in bad faith out of obligation is neither realistic nor fair . Being genuine also involves knowing how to set limits," Werthein said in defense of Javier Milei on her X account.

In the official broadcast of the event, it was clearly seen how the Buenos Aires mayor attempted to greet Javier Milei, who continued walking with his arms crossed and did not even approach the PRO leader. With the incident now viral, the Argentine president also spoke out on social media about what happened.

Specifically, he cited a post advocating against traitors, along with two photographs of the LLA leader and the head of the Buenos Aires City Council. " Rome doesn't pay traitors ," the president wrote, citing this post, which highlighted the reason for this unusual incident during the Te Deum on May 25th.

After having promoted a dirty campaign and having given rise to figures whose sole objective was to harm Javier and, by extension, Argentina, we cannot now expect a gesture of courtesy as if nothing had happened. Actions have consequences.
